how do I get help?
There are many ways you can obtain help with your taxes:
Contact the Inland Revenue.
Ring the Inland Revenue helpline on 0845 900 0444. You may be able to make an appointment to visit an Inland Revenue office if there is one near you. The staff at the Inland Revenue are very helpful and will try to sort out any problems you may have.
Have a look at the Inland Revenue website.
There are many leaflets available through this site, as well as online tax return forms you can have a look at.
Speak to an adviser, such as CAB or Connexions
There are many free advisory services that will help you – again look in the telephone book and visit one of them. Normally their help is free.
Look at Tax tables
Every year MacIntyre Hudson, a well known firm of Chartered Accountants and Business Advisors, publish the Tax tables on their website
(www.macintyrehudson.co.uk). The tables are updated after the Budget each year and are a valuable summary of the tax rates in force. The tables can be downloaded free of charge and provide information on all the current rates of taxation.
Finally, remember that many people are in fact paying too much in taxes. You really do need to keep a check on the amount you are paying to make sure you are not one of them.
